MORE THAN JUST A BAKERY
We make award-winning lavosh flatbreads, biscotti and cheese biscuits — and we take real pride in every delicious batch. But the bakery is just the beginning. What really drives us is something much bigger: the chance to empower the lives of people with learning disabilities and in doing so to make the world a kinder and more accepting place.
Baking biscuits. Changing lives.
We provide training in the skills needed for a job in a real workplace for people with learning differences in the Bristol area. We work alongside our trainees, who grow in confidence, master new skills and get ready for fulfilling futures.
We also work alongside employers, collaborating to help our trainees move successfully into employment. Then there’s the social element. We know how important strong social networks are for everybody – loneliness is a problem in our society – even more so for people with learning differences. We take great care to create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere where friendships are made, and a sense of belonging is encouraged. We also put on brilliant social events.
Our aim is social. Our food is delicious.
OUR STORY
We are two Janes. Jane Kippax and Jane Chong. We are like-minded friends and we met when our children were young. Lottie and Andrew both have Down’s syndrome. They have opened our eyes to a world of possibilities. We see what they are capable of. We see their ability not their disability. We want everyone to see people like Lottie and Andrew in the same way we do. Step and Stone combines our passion for delicious food with helping to create a kinder world.
